August, 2011
Dear Fruitvale Parents,
Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year! We are looking forward to working with you and your child. Parent and family involvement is a key component in every child’s academic success. You will be informed of your child’s academic performance and grade level expectations throughout the year. Your support and involvement are crucial. There are very high expectations in school these days. The legislation of No Child Left Behind demands accountability from all school staff, students, and parents. Our children need to be here every day on time in order to keep up with these expectations. We cannot stress enough how important good attendance is to your child’s academic success. If your child is not at school, they miss out on critical instructional time. The more school students miss, the harder it is to catch up and the more stressful it becomes for kids to keep up with the class.
Every Wednesday, your child will bring home a Fruitvale folder filled with parent information and student work. You need to take the time to look at this information, review your student’s work, and return/sign necessary paperwork along with signing the back of the folder. Your child needs to bring this folder back on Thursday morning. Information regarding school events, your child’s academic progress, student behavior notices, incomplete work, and community information will be in this folder. Please make sure you check it every week!
We need to be able to contact you to discuss academic/behavior issues or in the event of an emergency. The telephone numbers you have on file with Fruitvale must be valid and current. We periodically use ParentLink, a computerized calling system, to inform parents of upcoming school events or a situation that parents need to be informed about. ParentLink also calls homes of absent students after class attendance is taken each day. ParentLink is only useful if the given telephone numbers are valid.
Lastly, we wanted to let our families know that one of our teachers, Mr. Jon Lacquement, tragically passed away in July. He was passionate about teaching and truly made a difference at Fruitvale. If your child had Mr. Lacquement for a teacher, please talk with them about his death. Children will be looking for their former teachers during the first weeks of school and we want them to know that he is no longer with us before school begins.
We are committed to giving our best for your child. Class lists will be posted on the front fence on Friday, August 19th after 4:00 p.m. The class lists will be up all weekend. We look forward to seeing you on Monday, August 22nd for the first day of school. Our staff is here to answer any questions you may have. We welcome and encourage your involvement. Again, your support is critical in promoting a positive school climate and student achievement.
Sincerely,
Karen Brooks, Principal
